Ganesh Kalyanam (The Divine Wedding)
The Divine Wedding Tanjore
This circular composition presents the marriage of Lord Ganesha as a richly ornamented celestial gathering. Beneath a grand ceremonial pavilion, Ganesha stands beside his brides, surrounded by deities, sages, musicians and attendants. A sacred fire burns in the foreground, anchoring the scene in the rituals of marriage. Gold ornament, jewelled crowns and garlands lend splendour to the assembly, while deep red, green and blue create a vibrant devotional setting. The tiered arches frame the central union, drawing the surrounding figures into a closely gathered celebration.Ganesha’s consorts, identified across traditions as Siddhi and Buddhi, or Riddhi and Siddhi, embody accomplishment, wisdom and prosperity. Their union gives these qualities a human form, expressing the promise of harmony and auspicious beginnings through the familiar joy of a wedding.
