Dwarapalaka
A hand-carved teak figure of a winged celestial being, depicted mid-motion with an animated, airborne stance. Adorned with a ceremonial crown, jewellery, and traditional attire, the figure is finished in soft polychrome with traces of antique gold leaf. Often associated with Gandharvas—the divine musicians of Hindu mythology—such figures reflect the cross-cultural visual language of South Indian devotional art. Traditionally placed on columns, cornices, or altar pediments, they functioned as both ornament and symbolic guardians. Rich in detail and movement, the piece carries a strong sculptural presence, with its wings, gesture, and warm gilt surface lending a sense of quiet opulence
